Cruise Week 2013 was led by RSYC members Susan DeSimone & Roger Wallace and was called “Around the World in 8ish Days.” Each participating club boat picked a home port and country of origin. Those choices then flavored cruise week as each boat supported its choice with courtesy flags, ethnic foods, specialty drinks and customs from their chosen country. Boats were also given a passport and then visited the other countries (boats) as cruise week progressed. Passports were stamped as club members made their way around the world. With 18 boats participating during the week, club members had to travel far and wide during the week to collect their visa stamps.
Real destinations for the week included Willsboro Bay, Valcour Island, Deep Bay, Burton Island and Shelburne Bay. However, each of these locations were transformed into a fantasy foreign port (i.e., Deep Bay became Cote d’Ivoire, Africa) and the corresponding home port boat was afforded the opportunity to play harbor master. Wow, the bribes we had to pay at some ports of call!
One of the highlights of the week was our imaginary equator crossing and the resulting visit by King Neptune and his court. Many club officers were subpoenaed by Davey Jones and had to face the wrath of King Neptune’s ruthless minions.
Like all of RSYC’s cruise weeks, the week was structured to be inclusive and enjoyable for all generations. Activities were made fun for young and old alike. Please see the pictures and pdf documents for a little bit more about Cruise Week 2013.
