Bill Gladstone / North U Racing Clinic – Memorial Day Weekend!
Fantastic news! The one and only Bill Gladstone is coming to Vermont and will be teaching a Sailing/Racing clinic over Memorial Day Weekend at Point Bay Marina.
Bill has written numerous books on sail trim, boat handling, and racing tactics, and has very successfully raced everything from dinghies to maxis, ponds to oceans. He is the director of North Sails education division, and you can read more about him here: https://northu.com/about/bill-gladstone/
The multi day clinic will feature both lectures and on the water drills with video reviews. We’ll cover everything from boat and crew prep, to pre-race set up, starts, upwind and downwind strategies for both JaM and spinnaker boats, race tactics, rules, crew positions including foredeck, trimmer, helmsman etc and anything else the group wants.
We’ll be starting the class after the Saturday, May 26th RSYC Fast Sail so everyone has a chance to figure out what we might need to beat Lil’ Bot. Seriously, Bill will be on the course watching and taking video and drone shots of the Fast Sail for review, so he can really dial into what we need.
After an afternoon of class, you can join the RSYC burger burn Saturday night, then come back for more racing clinic Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day) morning.
So, gather your crew, get your boat race ready, and prepare to start the season right with instruction from one of the true giants in the industry (and a crazy nice guy)!
If your boat is not launched, no worries, you can surely grab a crew spot on another boat for the water drills.
The cost is just $100 per person for all 3 days of fantastic learning and camaraderie!
Bill can take up to 10 boats and 40 students and I’ve got a few spots left. The official class won’t start until Saturday afternoon, giving boats from other clubs an opportunity to get to Point Bay. If you’d like to arrive early, you are welcome to join our pre course season opening “Fast Sail” and have your boat videoed by Bill for review during the class (no worries if you don’t, he will also be videoing the class drills, so there will be plenty of opportunity to get on camera).
Please contact me, Wendy Friant s/v Raven to indicate your interest, reserve your spot, or pose any questions you may have.
Thanks! And I look forward to seeing everyone out on the lake (or sanding in the boatyard).
